Could Your Zodiac Sign Reveal Your Myers-Briggs Personality Type?

The MBTI, or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test, is a self-report questionnaire that has been used for many years as a personality assessment. You may have had to take it for school or maybe even a job opportunity. After answering a series of questions, you are given a 4 letter personality type. The categories measured are: Extroversion (E) vs Introversion (I), Sensing (S) vs Intuition (N), Thinking (T) vs Feeling (F), and Judging (J) vs Perceiving (P). There are 16 personality types in total. While many people still use the Myers-Briggs test, it has become very controversial, as its validity is questionable.

Sounds like something else I know... If you thought about Astrology, then you are correct! Many people question the validity of astrology, yet it is still very popular. While astrology and the Myers-Briggs test aren't normally viewed together, perhaps they are more alike than it seems.

Astrology fans have started to attribute certain zodiac signs with the personality types from the MBTI. Could zodiac signs potentially replace the need to take the Myers-Briggs test, saving time and money? Why are we still taking the Myers-Briggs test if it is so controversial? Using my own MBTI results, I will put these Myers-Briggs/Zodiac sign combinations to the test to see if they actually match!

A note about my history with the MBTI. The first time I took it was my freshman year of high school. After spending an entire day learning about the Myers-Briggs test, taking the test, and taking some shorter non-official tests, I ended up with nothing as my results were lost. While everyone else in my class compared their results, I was left empty-handed 😒. Flash-forward to Fall 2019 where I had to take it again for a class. The plan was to receive and use the results for a workshop we would do in Spring 2020... I think we know how this ends. Of course the first super serious pandemic of my lifetime would whip itself up, preventing me yet again from receiving my Myers-Briggs results! (p.s. don't worry, I don't actually believe getting my results is as terrible as the pandemic, I'm just dramatic).

With this being said, I will be using my results from a non-official test to compare it to my sign. Down below, I will be posting which signs correlate to which MBTI type.

As a reminder, I am your typical, overemotional Cancer. According to several zodiac sign and Myers-Briggs combinations, Cancers are usually: ISFJ, ISFP, INFJ, or INFP. The results from my non-official Myers-Briggs test were, ISFJ! It matches! Here is a breakdown of what my results mean. I- Introversion, S- Sensing, F- Feeling, and J- Judging. ISFJ's are,"The Protectors, Defenders, Nurturers". They tend to be reserved (me), sensitive (me), responsible (mostly), and value security, so change can be hard for them (ME). For me, my zodiac sign and Myers-Briggs correlate very well. It is also interesting that ISFJ's are known as "the nurturers" which is also used to describe cancers.

Another one I found used your rising sign, moon sign, Mercury, and Saturn to determine your MBTI result (for more information on how to figure out these signs and their meaning, look at the Resource page titled, "How To Read Your Birth Chart"). Using this, I would get: INTJ, which isn't usually characterized with sun sign cancers. I definitely know I am for sure an introvert, but I feel like I could do either way on the rest of the MBTI characteristics.

While both the Myers-Briggs and Astrology can be fun to study, is it important to remember that they both have questionable validity, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. It is also important to note that the Myers-Briggs and Zodiac signs have never been scientifically studied together, so these combinations were created by people interested in both studies. Look at the charts below to see if your signs and Myers-Briggs results match!
